Total number of participants (if applicable): 50 (15 to 30 years old).

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

1. Objectives: The ICOP – SOJEN project is a project that recruits 50 young French-speaking Blacks, living in Edmonton (20), Brooks (15) and Calgary (15), to benefit from training in social and professional skills. for a period of 48 weeks.
Participants must be:
a) visible and racialized (Black) minorities;
b) newcomers;
c) young people from official language communities in a situation
minority (French in Alberta);
And
d) most will come from low-income households.
Participants will have to follow 60 hours of social sessions and 60 hours of work placement.

This project focuses on building an inclusive Canada, promoting civic and democratic engagement, and building youth resilience. Young French-speaking Black immigrant participants engage in in-depth life skills learning in the context of succeeding and adapting to Canadian culture while maintaining their home cultures, experience of racism, and how to stay positive despite their experience of being French-speaking in an English-speaking part of Canada.
